Modern Egypt: Revolution, Reform, and the Making of a Nation

The first session will be an overview of Egypt's geography, demography, and languages and will cover the historical background of Egypt, including its ancient legacy, Ottoman rule, British occupation, and the emergence of modern Egypt. The second session will focus on the political, social, and economic developments in Egypt from the eras of Nasser, Sadat, and Mubarak, as well as the Arab Spring and its aftermath. Topics such as literature, art, music, cinema, and cuisine will be covered in the third session to provide students with a profound understanding of the country's cultural landscape. Through engaging lectures, stimulating readings, and interactive discussions, students will gain a holistic perspective of Egypt’s unique cultural identities.
